Another SBI Credit Card Devaluation, This Time on Reward Redemption Rules
SBI Cards has announced a revision to how reward points can be converted into statement credit. The new rules will come into effect from 1st April 2026 and introduce both a monthly redemption cap and a fixed redemption block requirement.

The ability to convert reward points into statement credit will continue, but the bank is introducing a monthly redemption cap and fixed redemption blocks, which will change how frequently and how much users can redeem.
Monthly Redemption Cap Introduced
From 1st April 2026, SBI Cards will limit how many credit card reward points can be redeemed for statement credit in a month.
Cardholders will now be able to redeem a maximum of 60,000 reward points per month as statement credit.
This rule will apply to all eligible SBI credit cards, except:
Air India SBI Signature Card
PhonePe SBI Card PURPLE
PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK
These cards will continue following their existing redemption structure.
For users who accumulate a large number of credit card reward points, this cap may require spreading redemptions across multiple months instead of redeeming everything at once.
Redemption Only in Multiples of 4,000 Points
Another key change is that reward points can now only be redeemed in multiples of 4,000 points when converting them to statement credit.
This means redemptions will follow fixed blocks such as:
4,000 points
8,000 points
12,000 points
16,000 points
Partial or irregular point redemptions will no longer be allowed.
This rule applies to all eligible SBI credit cards, except:
PhonePe SBI Card PURPLE
PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK
Earlier, cardholders had more flexibility in choosing how many credit card points they wanted to redeem. With this change, redemption becomes more structured and slightly less flexible.
Understanding Reward Point Value
For most SBI credit cards, reward points typically have a value of ₹0.25 per point, meaning 4 reward points equal ₹1 when redeemed as statement credit.
Because of this structure:
4,000 reward points = ₹1,000 statement credit
So under the new rule, the maximum redemption per month would effectively translate to about ₹15,000 worth of statement credit if you redeem the full 60,000 points.
Another Recent Update for SBI Cashback Card
This update comes shortly after another important revision announced for the SBI Cashback Credit Card, one of the most popular credit cards in India.
Recently, SBI Card introduced new cashback caps and exclusions on the card, which affects how much cashback users can earn within a statement cycle. This SBI Cashback Credit Card Devaluation will also come into effect from 1st April 2026.
Why Tracking These Changes Matters
These changes do not impact how you earn reward points, but they do change how quickly and flexibly you can redeem them for statement credit.
Credit card rewards programs are constantly evolving. Small policy changes like redemption caps or category exclusions can significantly affect the actual value you get from your card over time.
At SaveSage, we track these updates and devaluations across credit cards so users can stay informed and make smarter decisions about where to spend and how to redeem their rewards. Keeping up with these changes ensures you continue extracting the maximum value from your credit cards instead of leaving points unused or stuck behind new limits.
