HSBC Live+ Credit Card Devaluation July 2026
From 26 July 2026, HSBC Live+ Credit Card will see a mixed devaluation. The card’s forex markup will reduce, but international cashback will be removed, domestic lounge access will be cut and cashback will stop on some merchant categories.

Before this change, the card’s main value came from 10% cashback on dining, food delivery and groceries, capped at ₹1,000 per month, along with 1.5% cashback on other eligible spends. That is why this update matters for cardholders who use the card for cashback, travel or international transactions.
Quick Answer
From 26 July 2026, HSBC Live+ Credit Card will have a lower forex markup on international transactions, but international spends will no longer earn 1.5% cashback. Lounge access will also reduce to 2 domestic visits per year, with only 1 visit allowed every six months and cashback will stop on hospital and local transportation MCCs.
What Is Changing?
Feature | Before 26 July 2026 | From 26 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Forex markup | 3.5% on international transactions | Reduced to 1.99% |
Cashback on international spends | 1.5% cashback on eligible international spends | will no longer be earned |
Domestic lounge access | 4 complimentary domestic lounge visits per year with 1 per quarter | 2 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits per calendar year, with 1 visit every six months |
Hospital spends | Applicable | No cashback on transactions under MCC 8062 |
Local transportation | Applicable | No cashback on transactions under MCC 4111 |
Forex Markup Reduced to 1.99%
The foreign exchange markup on international transactions will reduce from 3.5% to 1.99%. This can help users pay a lower upfront forex charge when making international spends.
Cashback on International Spends Removed
From 26 July 2026, eligible international spends will no longer earn 1.5% cashback. This matters for users who use HSBC Live+ for foreign currency payments, international travel bookings, overseas shopping or online payment to international merchants because the card becomes better on forex markup but with no reward.
Domestic Lounge Access Reduced
Before this change, HSBC Live+ offered 4 complimentary domestic lounge visits per year, limited to 1 visit per quarter. From 26 July 2026, this will reduce to 2 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits per calendar year, limited to 1 visit every six months.
This matters more for frequent travellers. If you travel often, 2 domestic lounge visits per year may not be enough. For occasional travellers, the benefit may still be useful. New Cashback Exclusions
From 26 July 2026, cashback will no longer be earned on transactions classified under these MCCs:
Hospitals: MCC 8062
Local Transportation, including bus and subway transit: MCC 4111
MCC means Merchant Category Code. It is the code used to classify a merchant’s business type. Cashback depends on this classification, not only on what the customer thinks the payment is for.
This means if a hospital payment is classified under MCC 8062, or a bus/subway transit transaction is classified under MCC 4111, it will not earn cashback from 26 July 2026.

Who Is Most Affected and What Should Cardholders Do Now?
This devaluation matters most if you used the card for international cashback, lounge access or the newly excluded categories. Before 26 July 2026, cardholders should check:
whether they regularly use the card for international spends
whether losing 1.5% cashback on foreign currency transactions affects their value
whether the new 1.99% forex markup with no international cashback is still better for their usage
whether 2 domestic lounge visits per year are enough for their travel
whether they were expecting cashback on hospital payments
whether they pay for local transportation classified under bus/subway transit MCC 4111
whether hospital and local transport exclusions affect their normal monthly spends
whether the latest HSBC terms still support their usage before making large transactions
whether another cashback or travel card may work better if these benefits were important
whether the ₹999 plus GST annual fee still makes sense, especially if they do not meet the ₹2 lakh annual spend needed for fee waiver
HSBC Live+ is not becoming useless, but its value will depend more on how you use it. Keep the card if your main spending categories still work well and you can justify the ₹999 plus GST fee or meet the ₹2 lakh annual spend waiver. Recheck its value if you used it for international cashback, frequent lounge access, hospital spends or local transportation payments.
HSBC Live+ is not the only card seeing benefit changes in 2026. Several banks have revised rewards, lounge access, fees or redemption rules this year. For a broader view, you can also check our Credit Card Devaluations: What’s Changing in 2026 guide.
