HDFC Credit Cards Devaluation 2026: What’s Changing Across Regalia Gold, Diners Club Privilege & Biz Power

HDFC Bank has been on a clear trend this year - quietly reducing benefits across its credit card portfolio. After earlier changes to premium cards like Infinia, the latest updates now impact widely used cards like Regalia Gold, Diners Club Privilege, and Biz Power.

Individually, these updates may seem minor. But when you look at them together, they clearly point in one direction, you now need to spend more, track more, and still get less value than before.

HDFC Regalia Gold

Regalia Gold was always a simple, easy-to-use card. That simplicity is now changing.

1. Reward Rate Reduced (Effective 15 May 2026)

Earlier: you earned 4 points for every ₹150 spent.
Now: you earn 5 points for every ₹200 spent.

This change reduces the effective reward rate, meaning users earn fewer rewards for the same spending pattern.

2. Lounge Access Becomes Spend-Linked

Lounge access has shifted from a default benefit to a spend-linked feature.

Earlier:

  • 3 domestic lounge visits per quarter

  • 6 international lounge visits per year

  • No spend requirement

Now:

  • You must spend ₹60,000 in the previous quarter to unlock domestic lounge access

The benefit remains, but access is conditional

Important to note:

  • International lounge access (Priority Pass) remains unchanged

  • Domestic access still works via direct card swipe (no voucher needed) once the spend criteria is met.

3. Additional Charges

  • Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee has been increased from 1% to 1.75%,making international INR transactions more expensive.

  • The card reissuance fee has also been revised from ₹100 to ₹199.

This makes international transactions and card management slightly more expensive.

4. Travel Edge Program (New Addition)

HDFC has introduced a new feature called the Travel Edge Program, accessible via SmartBuy.

Under this, you can avail any 2 benefits per quarter, such as:

  • Spa access

  • Airport transfer (capped at ₹750)

  • Hotel buffet

  • Room upgrade

You can choose any combination of 2 benefits in a quarter.

How it works:

  • Upload boarding pass on SmartBuy

  • Select benefit → generate voucher/QR

  • Use it at the destination

However, the usage comes with several conditions:

  • You must upload your boarding pass to unlock benefits (since this is now tied to boarding pass this would be majorly usable by primary card holder)

  • Benefits can only be used in the destination city (not origin/transit)

  • Only one voucher can be active at a time

  • Some benefits (like spa/buffet) expire within 3 days if unused

  • Services are provided via DreamFolks and depend on availability

  • Valid only at select partner hotels/spas (ITC, Fortune, etc.)

  • Room upgrades are only to the next category and subject to availability

  • Benefits are non-transferable and tied to the traveler

While it looks like a premium addition, actual usability is restricted and conditional.

HDFC Diners Club Privilege

Diners Club Privilege has not changed significantly in structure, but the overall experience has become more process-driven.

1. Reward Rate Reduction (Effective 15 May 2026)

  • Earlier: 4 points for every ₹150 spent

  • Now: 4 points for every ₹200 spent

This aligns with the broader trend across HDFC cards, where base reward rates have been slightly reduced.

2. Spend-Based Lounge Access (Effective 1 July 2026)

Previously, lounge access was straightforward and you get 2 Lounges per quarter for domestic and international lounge access without any  spend requirement.

Now, lounge access is tied to a spend threshold:

  • You must spend ₹60,000 in the previous quarter to unlock access

& you get:

  • 2 domestic lounge visits per quarter

  • 1 international lounge visit per quarter

Access is also no longer direct - you now need to generate a voucher (QR code) via SmartBuy and show it at the lounge to enter

Important Conditions (Lounge Access)

  • You get 3 lounge vouchers per quarter (2 domestic + 1 international) after meeting spend criteria

  • Voucher can be generated only by primary cardholder

  • Add-on cardholders can use the benefit, but the total limit is shared (2+1 across all cards) and voucher generation is tied to the primary holder.

  • No guest access allowed

  • Spends are counted based on settlement date, not transaction date (Keep a buffer of at least 1–2 days, especially near quarter-end)

  • Voucher Validity: Valid till the end of the next calendar quarter
(Example: Earned in Jul–Sep → valid till 31 Dec)

Overall, the card now requires more effort and higher spend, while offering lower value than before.

HDFC Biz Power

Biz Power has seen the most significant changes, particularly for users who rely on it for business expenses and tax payments.

1. Reward Rate Reduction (Effective 15 May 2026)

• Earlier: 4 points for every ₹150 spent
• Now: 5 points for every ₹200 spent

This leads to a drop in effective reward rate

At the same time, the cap on bonus rewards has been increased:

  • From 5,000 to 7,500 points per statement cycle

While this appears positive, the lower base rate and added restrictions offset much of this benefit.

2. 5X Accelerated Rewards: Now Harder to Unlock

Earlier, you just needed to spend ₹25,000 in a billing cycle to unlock 5X rewards and all spends were counted.

Now:

  • You still need ₹25,000 spends per cycle to unlock 5X rewards

  • But Income Tax & GST spends are excluded from this ₹25,000 threshold (you can consider Google Ads as an alternative spend category)

This is important because these were one of the major spending categories for this card.

You can still earn 5X rewards on:

  • PayZapp / SmartPay

  • Income Tax & GST

  • Flights & hotels via SmartBuy

  • Google Ads, business tools, Reliance Digital

But:
You first need to complete ₹25,000 spend without including IT & GST.
Only then will these spends earn 5X rewards

3. Capping on Tax Transactions

Another major change is the introduction of caps on tax-related rewards:

  • Rewards applicable only on first 2 Income Tax transactions per cycle

  • Rewards applicable only on first 2 GST transactions per cycle

  • Additional transactions earn no rewards

Major impact for users who make multiple tax payments

4. Quarterly Milestone Benefit (Effective 1 July 2026)

Spend ₹2.5 lakh in a quarter → get ₹5,000 voucher (MMT / Reliance Digital)

  • Excludes fuel, IT, GST, and EMI spends

Earlier, the voucher value was ₹2,500. While the value has doubled, the exclusions make it harder to achieve the milestone.

5. Lounge & Travel Benefits: Now Spend-Based

(Effective 1 July 2026)

Previously, lounge access was straightforward:

  • Up to 16 airport lounge access within India per calendar year

  • 2 complimentary lounge access per quarter

  • Additional another 2 complimentary lounge access on spending of ₹75,000 in the previous quarter.

Now:

  • 2 domestic lounge visits per quarter

  • 1 Zero Cancellation flight voucher (MakeMyTrip) per quarter

  • Requires ₹75,000 spend in the previous quarter

Benefits unlock only after meeting spend threshold

What Remains Unchanged

  • 6 International lounge access via Priority Pass/ Year

  • For RuPay Card, Priority Pass is not required to access complimentary 6 international lounge access. Cardholders can access international lounge using their RuPay Card

So, What’s Really Happening Here?

When you step back and look at all three cards, the pattern becomes very clear.

This isn’t just about rewards being reduced.

It’s about a shift from:

  • Free benefits → conditional benefits

  • Simple usage → tracked usage

  • Passive rewards → active optimization

Earlier, you could just use these cards and get value.

Now, you need to actively manage them to avoid losing value.
