Axis Airtel Credit Card Devaluation from April 2026

Axis Bank has revised the Axis Airtel Credit Card benefits effective 12 April 2026, and this update changes how the card actually works in day-to-day use. While the cashback percentages remain unchanged, the way they're capped has changed significantly.

Axis Airtel Credit Card Devaluation in 2026
Axis Airtel Credit Card devaluation changes how cashback and benefits are unlocked now.

The Axis Airtel Bank Credit Card has been one of the most popular cashback cards in India, especially for users who regularly spend on Airtel recharges and utility payments. Its simple structure and high cashback rates made it an easy choice for many.

How the Card Worked Earlier

Earlier, the card offered fixed cashback caps:

  • 25% cashback on Airtel mobile, broadband, and DTH payments (capped at ₹250 per month)

  • 10% cashback on utility bill payments via the Airtel Thanks app (capped at ₹250 per month)

  • 10% cashback on Swiggy, Zomato, and BigBasket (no minimum transaction requirement)

  • 1% cashback on all other spends, with no cap

This made the card extremely simple to use. Even with minimal usage, users could maximise their cashback on Airtel and utility categories.

What Changes from 12 April, 2026

1) Cashback Capping Now Linked to Base Spending

Axis Bank has linked the cashback caps of Airtel and utility categories to your base cashback.

  • New Capping for maximum cashback earned on 25% Airtel spends = 2× base cashback earned

  • New Capping for maximum cashback earned on 10% utility spends = 1× base cashback earned

Here, “base cashback” refers to the 1% earned on regular transactions. In simple terms, the more you spend on regular transactions, the more you can unlock in Airtel and utility cashback.

NOTE: If you don’t spend on base categories, you won’t earn any cashback on Airtel or utility payments via the Airtel Thanks app.

Practically, this means:

To unlock the current benefits:

  • To unlock ₹250 Airtel cashback(25%), you need ₹125 base cashback

  • Since base cashback is 1%, this requires ₹12,500 monthly spending

Similarly:

  • To unlock ₹250 utility cashback(10%), you need ₹250 base cashback

  • This requires ₹25,000 in monthly spending

If your base spending is low, your cashback on Airtel and utilities will also be capped at a lower amount.

In effect, users must now spend significantly on base categories(which is usually not recommended) to access the same level of benefits that were previously available without such conditions.

2) Swiggy & BigBasket: Removed

Another clear downgrade is in preferred merchants' benefits.

Earlier, the card offered 10% cashback on Swiggy, Zomato, and BigBasket spends with no minimum transaction requirement, making it highly practical for everyday use.

From April 12:

  • Swiggy and BigBasket cashback has been discontinued

The card now offers 10% value-back (not direct cashback) on Zomato, Blinkit & District.

However, this benefit comes with several restrictions:

  • Rewards are credited to the respective partner wallet, not the credit card statement

  • Maximum value-back is capped at ₹200 per partner per month

  • A minimum transaction value of ₹499 is required

  • Transactions such as wallet loads and gift card purchases are excluded

So while it still says “10%”, the flexibility is lower than before.

3) Lounge Access: No Longer Available

The card previously offered:

  • 4 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits per year

This benefit has now been completely discontinued.
Earlier, lounge access was already tied to a ₹50,000 spend in the previous quarter, making it less accessible for many users. Because of this, its removal may not impact all cardholders equally, but it still reduces the overall value proposition of the card.

Is the Card Still Worth It?

The April 2026 revision does not eliminate the core cashback features of the Axis Airtel Bank Credit Card, but it significantly alters how those benefits are accessed.

Although it is not recommended spending this much on Axis Airtel since users can choose different credit cards with better benefits for their major expenses instead. If you are someone who uses a car or a bike regularly then you should think of the best Credit Cards for fuel payments in India.
